Welcome to the Flock: My Journey with Chickstagram

Hey everyone! I’m Cody, and I want to take you on a journey that began back in 2019 with a few chickens, a curious mind, and a love for sharing knowledge. What started as a fun little Instagram page to showcase my flock soon turned into something bigger than I could have ever imagined.

It all began when a classmate in my ag class hatched some baby chicks as part of her FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). As fate would have it, I ended up bringing those five chicks home with me, and from there, Cody’s Chickstagram was born. My goal was simple: to help my fellow students keep up with the growth of the chicks and share what I had learned about raising poultry.

I didn’t expect much when I started—just thought maybe a few friends would follow along. But to my surprise, the page gained traction, and pretty soon, followers started rolling in from all over. Even the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo followed me, which was both exciting and slightly nerve-wracking!

Fast forward a couple of years, and Chickstagram had over 2,300 followers! I shared everything from the daily lives of my birds to behind-the-scenes info about the poultry industry. I had fun dressing up the chickens, digitally editing their photos, and giving them personalities that people loved.

My flock grew too. At one point, I had 67 chickens, along with a mix of pheasants, quail, ducks, and guinea fowl. I even had a favorite—Walka, a cross of a Maran. Each bird had its own quirks, and I loved documenting them for everyone to see. My laying hens would give me about 18 to 24 eggs a day, and let me tell you, those eggs were anything but plain! I got teal, pink, green, brown, and everything in between.

While I don’t have my flock anymore, my passion for poultry remains strong. That’s why I’m excited to start this blog—so I can continue sharing my love for poultry with all of you. Here, you’ll find posts about everything from chicken care tips to interesting facts about the poultry industry.

I’m looking forward to keeping this community alive and giving you a little glimpse into my poultry-filled past and present.

Thanks for joining me on this new adventure—let’s see where it takes us!
