My Love-Hate Relationship with Guinea Fowl: Four Years of Screaming Chaos

 Howdy, Cody here again!

I’ve raised a lot of different birds in my time, but none of them left quite the impression that my three guinea fowl did. I’ll be the first to admit—when I got them, I was expecting a fun little addition to my flock, and in many ways, that’s exactly what they were. But boy, were they chaotic, loud, and a little hard to manage. Still, after four years of their non-stop antics, I’d get them again in a heartbeat.

Guinea Fowl: The Fun Begins

When I first brought my three guinea fowl home, I was excited. I had heard they were excellent at pest control, and I thought, What’s the harm in a little extra noise? Turns out, it wasn’t just a little extra noise—it was a full-on symphony of screeches, day and night. But here’s the thing: I loved it. Their personalities were so wild and free, I couldn’t help but laugh as they ran around the yard, doing exactly what they wanted.

Escape Artists Extraordinaire

If you’ve ever tried to pen up a guinea fowl, you know it’s like trying to bottle up a tornado. No matter what I did, they found a way out. They’d fly, squeeze, or somehow Houdini their way out of any pen I put them in. Eventually, I just stopped trying. They clearly wanted their freedom, and honestly, watching them run around the yard, I couldn’t blame them.

It became a routine: I’d let them out, and they’d wander wherever they pleased. Sometimes they’d come back, sometimes they wouldn’t. But they always found their way home, even if it was after an adventure around the neighborhood.

The Screaming

Let’s get one thing straight: guinea fowl are loud. Like, really loud. And they scream for every reason under the sun—whether they see something interesting, whether they’re excited, or even when absolutely nothing is happening. But for all the noise, it became part of the charm. I could hear them from the house and just smile, knowing they were out there doing their thing, ruling the yard.

Why I Loved Them Anyway

Despite the noise, the escaping, and the general chaos they brought to the yard, I genuinely loved having guinea fowl. They’re quirky, independent, and full of personality. They might not have been the most cooperative birds, but that was part of the fun. Every day with them was different, and they always kept me on my toes.

And, let’s not forget—they were absolute champs when it came to pest control. I rarely had to worry about ticks or other pests when my guinea fowl were around. They took care of business, all while causing their delightful chaos.

Would I Get Guinea Fowl Again?

Absolutely! Sure, they’re loud, and they don’t exactly follow the rules, but they’re worth every bit of the challenge. If you’re looking for birds that will keep you entertained and make your backyard feel alive, guinea fowl are the way to go. They may drive you a little crazy with their constant chatter, but trust me—you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

For four years, they were my backyard companions, and I still find myself missing their wild energy. If I ever get the chance to have guinea fowl again, I won’t hesitate. They brought so much life and fun to the yard, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.

So, what do you think—are guinea fowl right for you? Whether you’re ready for their loud personalities or not, they’ll certainly make an impact. If you’ve had guinea fowl before, I’d love to hear your stories!
